Scientists are finding a multitude of health benefits when it comes to choosing compassion. ![]() Hence, compassion is an intentional practice. If you're realizing you've done this before, don't worry we all have. Those involve either choosing not to truly relate to someone else's emotions or looking down on someone else who is struggling. Compassion drives you to give of yourself in some way.Ī note: compassion is distinctly different from sympathy and pity. I like to think of it as empathy in action. And you have a simple way to understand compassion. Now, combine that with the desire to alleviate that pain you see in them. Have you ever been around someone having a tough time, and instead of turning away, chosen to understand and sometimes even experience a fraction of their emotion? That's empathy.
